State Senator Elaine Alquist Endorses Jim Beall for State Senate

Alquist Cites Beall's Record, Vision, and Dedication to Santa Clara County

San Jose, CA — State Senator Elaine Alquist announced today that she is endorsing Assemblyman Jim Beall for State Senate District 15.  Alquist joins dozens of other local leaders, including State Senate Majority Leader Ellen Corbett, Assemblyman Rich Gordon, Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, Sheriff Laurie Smith, Board of Supervisors President Liz Kniss and Supervisor Ken Yeager in supporting Beall.

Senator Alquist currently represents State Senate District 13, which makes up a significant portion of the newly drawn State Senate District 15, including much of the City of San Jose.  She has lived in Santa Clara County for more than 30 years and is a recognized leader on a number of important issues, including promoting a business-oriented agenda, funding for public education and crime victim protection.

“Jim Beall has spent his life as a committed advocate for the people of Santa Clara County.  I am proud to endorse him for the State Senate,” said Senator Alquist. “I know that in the State Senate, he will continue to work to make our community better – by working to create jobs, protecting students, seniors and the disabled, and standing up against the special interests.”

Senator Elaine Kontominas Alquist was elected to the Assembly in 1996 and the State Senate in 2004, and then reelected in 2008.  She is a former public school teacher, school board member, small business owner and the first Greek American woman elected to both houses of the California State Legislature.

Born and raised in San Jose, Assemblyman Beall served on the San Jose City Planning Commission before becoming the youngest person, at age 28, ever to be elected to the San Jose City Council. He served 14 years on the council and was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in 1994.  Beall was elected to the California Assembly in 2006 and re-elected by wide margins in 2008 and 2010. Over his 31 years in public service, he has represented nearly half of SD15.
