San Jose, CA – Assemblyman Jim Beall made official his intention to run for the San Jose/Santa Clara County state senate district today.

“It has been an honor representing the people of San Jose on the City Council, as Supervisor and as a member of the California Assembly,” Beall said. “Today, I am declaring my intention to run for the state senate to continue fighting to make the South Bay a better place to live and work.”

Beall praised the redistricting commission for their hard work carrying out the people’s will expressed in Propositions 11 and 20. Beall stated, “The commissioners have worked hard, and diligently, to carry out the will of the voters of California. I applaud their efforts.”

“While the work of the commission is unfinished, if there is an odd-numbered state senate district that includes my home in the City of San Jose and the neighboring communities of the Santa Clara Valley, I intend to run in the June 2012 primary,” Beall declared. “I have accumulated unmatched experience working to create job growth, fighting traffic congestion, and protecting the health and safety of the people of Santa Clara County.”

Assemblyman Beall has established a campaign committee to run for state senate.

Born and raised in San Jose, Assemblyman Beall is a graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory and earned a degree in Political Science from San Jose State University. In subsequent years, Jim attended San Jose State University graduate courses in urban planning and public finance.

Beall served on the San Jose City Planning Commission before becoming the youngest person, at age 28, ever to be elected to the San Jose City Council. He served 14 years on the council and in 1994, he was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. In 2006, Beall was elected to the California Assembly.

Jim has been married to his wife, Pat, for more than 25 years. He is the proud stepfather of Pat’s two sons, Greg and Mark.
